The research is part of the ERC Advanced Grant-funded epiC9repair project, which aims to decode how aberrant DNA repair and genomic instability contribute to C9orf72 pathogenesis. By leveraging advanced genomic, epigenomic, and genome-editing tools, the project seeks to identify new therapeutic targets and biomarkers that could fundamentally alter the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The Lab Is Renowned For Its Pioneering Work In ALS And FTD, Employing a Multidisciplinary Approach That Integrates Epigenomics, Genome Editing, IPSC-derived Neurons, And In Vivo Models. The EpiC9repair Project Offers The Unique Opportunity To– Design advanced CRISPR screens and develop innovative chromatin mapping techniques in iPSC-derived neurons to characterize and modulate DNA repair and epigenetic changes at the repeat locus.– Identify epigenetic biomarkers that correlate with disease progression and regional neurodegeneration in patient samples using techniques such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, or long-read sequencing.– Translate these discoveries into therapeutic interventions using AAV and ASO technologies in mouse models.The lab’s research environment is highly collaborative and supportive, with a strong emphasis on translational potential and publication in high-impact journals.
