Refinery Optimization Manager
Position: Refinery Optimization ManagerSummary:The Refinery Optimization Manager is responsible for leading refinery optimization activities to maximize asset profitability. This role focuses on optimizing feedstocks, products, operating conditions, and capital deployment while supporting adjacent business development initiatives. The position partners closely with operations, commercial, and leadership teams to ensure aligned, data-driven decision-making across the refinery.Job Duties:Leadership and Optimization Management• Lead and manage the team responsible for refinery optimization activities, including feedstock evaluations, operating plans, refinery operations support, and product marketing and distribution optimization• Mentor and develop optimization capabilities and technical skill sets within the team and the broader supporting organization• Coordinate, maintain, and enhance optimization models, scheduling tools, and supporting spreadsheets and softwarePlanning, Analysis, and Reporting• Develop and communicate weekly, quarterly, and annual optimization reports for senior leadership review and action• Provide accurate, timely assessments of operating plans, economic opportunities, and optimization scenarios• Ensure alignment of refinery operating direction with overall business objectivesCross-Functional Collaboration• Regularly communicate plans and priorities up, down, and across multiple departments to maintain alignment and shared focus• Collaborate with leadership and key stakeholders in major projects, crude supply, clean products, operations, marketing, and finance to evaluate and develop value-enhancing opportunities• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department leadership and executivesTechnology and Continuous Improvement• Identify, evaluate, and implement applicable technologies and tools to improve refinery profitability and optimization effectiveness• Proactively communicate optimization issues, risks, and opportunities to applicable personnelJob Requirements:Education• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline requiredExperience and Knowledge• Minimum of 3 years of experience in refinery optimization, planning, or scheduling• Minimum of 6 years of total experience in a refinery or process industry environment• Prior experience managing or supervising professional staff preferred• Demonstrated strong working knowledge of refinery operations fundamentals• Experience with refinery LP modeling software, scheduling software, and crude assay management software preferredSkills and Competencies• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills• Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization• Fluent in English, both oral and written• Ability to adjust work schedule to meet business needsPhysical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
