IP Associate - Electrical/Computer Science
Job Description: Buchanan's growing AI practice team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced associate with a strong background in electrical engineering and computer science. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in technology areas such as computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, network architecture, mobile communications and cloud computing.Key Responsibilities:Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting claims, specifications and responses to office actions related to software and technology innovations.Conduct USPTO Examiner interviews and advocate for clients during the prosecution process.Review prior art searches and analyze the patentability of inventions, providing strategic insights to clients.Collaborate with inventors and technical teams to develop and refine patent portfolios, ensuring alignment with business objectives.Stay informed on developments in patent law and technology trends, particularly as they pertain to computer science and electrical engineering.Participate in client meetings and presentations, effectively communicating complex technical concepts and legal strategies. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one state.A technical background, such as a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in intellectual property law, particularly in drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, network management, mobile communications and cloud computing.Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is a significant advantage.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to navigate complex technical and legal information.Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
