Trailer Porter

Job Summary The Trailer Checker/Porter is responsible for inspecting and maintaining trailers, ensuring they meet safety and operational standards. This role involves moving trailers within the facility, performing basic maintenance checks, and coordinating with drivers and warehouse staff to ensure efficient operations. The position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and adherence to safety protocols. Key Responsibilities Trailer Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of trailers to check for damage, leaks, tire conditions, and mechanical issues. Ensure trailers meet safety and compliance standards. Trailer Movement: Safely move trailers within the yard using a forklift to move to designated areas. Maintenance Checks: Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as checking lights, brakes, and couplings, and report any issues to the maintenance team on arrival. Documentation: Record inspection results, trailer conditions, and any defects in logs or digital systems. Maintain accurate records of trailer movements and statuses. Coordination: Communicate with drivers, warehouse staff, and supervisors to ensure trailers are ready for loading/unloading and to resolve any issues. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety regulations, including wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) and adhering to company and OSHA guidelines. Cleanliness: Keep trailers and yard areas clean and organized, removing debris and ensuring a safe working environment. Inventory Tracking: Assign trackers to incoming trailers. Assist in tracking trailer inventory and ensuring proper placement within the yard. Hours: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri 8a-5p; Thur 7a-5p and every other Saturday 8a-12p Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience: Previous experience in a transportation, logistics, or warehouse environment is a plus but not always required. Training may be provided. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions. Skills Strong attention to detail for inspections and documentation. Basic mechanical knowledge to identify trailer issues. Ability to operate yard trucks or similar equipment safely. Good communication and teamwork skills. Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures. Must be able to use a forklift Work Environment Primarily outdoor work in a trucking yard or warehouse facility. Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Fast-paced environment with frequent interaction with drivers and warehouse staff.
