Position Overview
We are seeking a professional, confident, and highly observant Armed Security Officer to provide security services at a residential apartment complex. This role requires officers capable of lawful verbal engagement, resident verification, and firm but professional confrontationwhen addressing trespassing, loitering, and other unauthorized activity. Officers must maintain a strong, visible security presence while enforcing property rules, access control policies, and post orders. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound judgment, situational awareness, and the ability to de-escalate encounters while remaining prepared to take appropriate action in accordance with company SOPs, client directives, and applicable laws. This assignment involves extended walking and standing patrols, frequent interaction with residents and property management, and consistent documentation of enforcement actions, incidents, and observations.
Key Responsibilities
Resident & Access Enforcement
Verify resident status and authorized access
Professionally confront and remove unauthorized non-residents in accordance with post orders
Enforce no-trespassing, loitering, and property rules in a calm and lawful manner
Patrol & Visibility
Conduct routine foot patrols of buildings, common areas, and parking facilities
Maintain a visible, professional armed security presence
Identify, deter, and report suspicious or criminal activity
Monitoring & Reporting
Observe CCTV and access control systems when applicable
Complete patrol logs and accurately document all patrol activity
Write clear, detailed incident and daily activity reports
Immediately report incidents, hazards, or use-of-force situations per SOP
Coordination & Safety
Communicate effectively with property management and supervisors
Contact local law enforcement when required by policy or law
Armed-Specific Qualifications (Pennsylvania)
Valid Pennsylvania Act 235 Certification (Required)
Current firearm qualification in accordance with Act 235 standards
Knowledge of Pennsylvania laws regarding the use of force, trespass enforcement, and citizen encounters
Ability to safely carry, retain, and secure a duty firearm and related equipment
Prior armed security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred
Valid driver’s license
Ability to meet all ongoing training, licensing, and regulatory requirements
Use-of-Force & De-Escalation Standards
Officers must prioritize verbal commands, presence, and de-escalation techniques
Physical force may be used only when objectively reasonable, legally justified, and consistent with company SOPs and applicable law
Firearm use is strictly limited to situations involving an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm, as permitted by law
Officers are not law enforcement and may not exceed legal authority
All confrontations or use-of-force incidents must be immediately reported and fully documented
Violations of use-of-force policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination
Pre-Employment & Ongoing Requirements
Successful completion of a criminal background check, as permitted by law
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Failure or refusal to test will result in the withdrawal of a conditional offer
Ongoing compliance with the company’s substance-free workplace policy, which may include random, reasonable-suspicion, or post-incident testing
Continued eligibility to possess and carry a firearm under federal and Pennsylvania law
Physical & Professional Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to remain alert, composed, and professional in high-stress situations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to follow post orders, SOPs, and client directives
