Works with school-aged children to ensure they are provided with a safe and healthy environment during the summer camp program hours. This is a temporary position, which carries no employee benefits or paid time off. Campers are ages 6 through 13 years of age.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the general guidance and direction of the Director of Parks and Human Services or designee.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:NoneEssential DutiesProvides quality instruction in physical education using he CATCH curriculum.Leads and supervises campers within assigned age groups (ages 6-13) during structured fitness and recreational activities.Designs and implements age-appropriate fitness programs, including warm-ups, stretching, basic conditioning, and fun physical activities that promote health and wellness.Organizes and facilitates active games, sports, and movement-based activities that encourage teamwork, coordination, and positive engagement.Incorporates fitness components into camp-wide events, performances, and themed activities to promote an active lifestyle.Ensures the safety and well-being of all participants by maintaining constant supervision and enforcing camp safety protocols.Provides instruction on proper exercise techniques and promotes good sportsmanship and healthy habits.Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper progress, participation, achievements, or behavioral concerns.Maintains accurate records including attendance, incident reports, and activity participation logs in accordance with departmental requirements.Assists with maintaining clean, safe, and organized activity areas, including light facility upkeep such as equipment organization and debris removal.Works under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator and/or Parks & Recreation Supervisor to ensure program goals are met.Demonstrates strong leadership, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate and engage children of varying fitness levels and abilities.Performs basic first aid for minor injuries such as cuts, bruises, and abrasions, and responds appropriately to emergencies.Maintains punctuality and consistent attendance as an essential function of the role.Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day).Performs additional duties as needed to support the overall success of the Summer Camp and Parks and Human Services programs.QualificationsMust possess a high school diploma or equivalent.Must possess a Fitness or Trainer Certification.Minimum of two (2) years of experience working leading physical activities.CPR and First Aid Certification is mandatory and must be current throughout summer camp. Certifications training will be provided through the Parks and Human Services Department.Miscellaneous Information & Special RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Basic principles of youth fitness, physical activity, and age-appropriate exercise techniques.Understanding of child development and behavior management strategies for school-age children.Knowledge of safety practices, injury prevention, and basic first aid procedures.Familiarity with recreational games, sports, and group fitness activities suitable for children.Ability to lead and instruct engaging, age-appropriate fitness and recreational activities.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and staff.Classroom/group management skills with the ability to maintain structure and discipline in a positive manner.Organizational skills to plan activities, manage time, and maintain accurate records.Ability to motivate and encourage children of varying fitness levels and abilities.Ability to maintain a safe, inclusive, and energetic environment at all times.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-pressure situations.Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to support program goals.Ability to successfully pass physical, drug testing and background check.NOTE: Finger printing is required; all finger prints will be checked through the State of Florida's Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) as well as through the Department of Children and Families (DCF).SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:NoneTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:NonePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee in this position to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
