Smart Grid Engineer
Overview:A leading electric utility in the Southwest is seeking a Smart Grid Engineer III / Senior to drive innovation, automation, and long-range system planning initiatives. This on-site role in Phoenix, AZ is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong foundation in power systems, grid modernization, and advanced distribution technologies. If you thrive at the intersection of engineering analysis, emerging technology, and operational execution, this opportunity offers high-impact visibility and long-term growth.Key Responsibilities:Provide technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support for long-range smart grid system planning initiatives.Lead and support automation, protection, and grid modernization projects, including configuration, validation, commissioning, and operational integration.Conduct and support load flow analysis, short circuit studies, state estimation, and distribution operations assessments.Collaborate cross-functionally to align technology solutions with business and operational requirements, supporting pilot demonstrations and emerging grid technologies.Preferred Technical Experience:Familiarity with reliability and power quality technologies (voltage regulators, capacitor banks, reclosers, line sensors, dynamic VAR control, SCADA-controlled devices).Experience with systems such as ADMS, CYME, OSI PI, IBM Maximo, PowerBase, SCADA, DNP3, and cellular network protocols.Working knowledge of distribution system modeling, automation, and advanced grid communications.Strong analytical mindset with demonstrated ability to think strategically and drive innovation in utility environments.Apply here or contact rex.li@jcwgroup.com for details
