Heavy Equipment Technician (Fleet Services -- Multiple Positions)

SALARY The minimum salary is $25.730 per hour This position is eligible for overtime (non-exempt), if applicable. Pay Grade 519 This position is eligible for Hazardous Duty Supplemental Pay ($90/month, $0.52c/hour) and CDL pay ($1.08/hour) once obtained within the required first six (6) months of employment. FILING DEADLINE DATE The deadline to apply is Tuesday, May 26, 2026 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The purpose of this classification to perform comprehensive maintenance and repairs on Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government's diverse fleet of heavy equipment, motor vehicles, and related systems. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma, GED, or equivalent Two (2) years of related experience Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs scheduled preventative maintenance as needed to maintain optimum performance Perform safety inspections Diagnoses and repairs all performance deficiencies Fabricates parts and components as needed to make repairs Purchases and maintains inventory of parts and supplies Maintains records of work performed Performs related work as assigned SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION All Certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment. Valid Driver's License Valid Kentucky Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment and maintain the CDL as a condition of continued employment One (1) certification from the list approved by Fleet Services (see addendum) must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment condition of continued employment: ASE Certifications T1 - Gasoline Engines T2 - Diesel Engines T3 - Drive Train T4 - Brakes T5 - Suspension & Steering T6 - Electrical/ Electronic Systems T7 - Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) T8 - Preventive Maintenance Inspection G1 - Auto Maintenance and Light Repair L2 - Diesel Engine Diagnostic Specialist F1 - Alternative Fuels E1 - Truck Equipment Installation & Repair E2 - Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation & Repair E3 - Auxiliary Power Systems Installation & Repair SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
