Responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional (DSP):
Support Daily Living Needs
Assist individuals with tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and eating, while promoting independence and dignity.
Promote Independence
Encourage and teach skills that help individuals live as independently as possible — including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal care.
Implement Care Plans
Follow individualized service and behavior support plans designed to meet each person's unique needs and goals.
Medication Assistance
Administer or assist with medications according to training and state regulations (if applicable).
Foster Community Engagement
Accompany individuals to community outings, events, appointments, work, or volunteer opportunities, promoting inclusion and social interaction.
Ensure Safety and Well-Being
Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment; respond to emergencies; and report any concerns promptly.
Document and Communicate
Accurately complete daily notes, incident reports, medication logs, and communicate effectively with the care team and families.
Advocate and Empower
Advocate for the rights, choices, and preferences of individuals while treating them with respect, dignity, and compassion.
Participate in Team Collaboration
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and contribute to planning and problem-solving to ensure quality support
