Under the general supervision of the Labor and Delivery Nurse Manager, the Lead Resource Nurse serves as an experienced clinician and leader who demonstrates strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and collaborative practice. The Lead Resource Nurse provides oversight of the Resource Nurse role and supports daily unit operations to ensure safe, efficient, and patient‑centered care.EducationAssociate degree from an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor’s degree required within 3 years of start date.Experience5 years current Charge Nurse Experience7 years Labor and Delivery Experience3 years of Triage Provider CPR and NRPCurrent certification in Inpatient Obstetrics or Fetal MonitoringSkillsProficient in labor and delivery clinical skills including, but not limited to, fetal monitoring assessment, IV and phlebotomy, familiar with hospital and unit policiesProficiency in developing nursing plan of care, implementing effective nursing care, and evaluating outcome of nursing interventionExcellent nursing diagnosis.Utilizes physical assessment and interviewing techniques.Anticipates need for intervention by other disciplines.Determines priorities for patient care needs or problems.Reassesses the patient as indicated by changes in condition and/ or response to treatment(s)Planning.Initiates and updates a written nursing plan of care for patients by incorporating scientific and psychosocial principles that support the nursing diagnosis.Incorporates information obtained from nursing care planning conferences into written nursing plan of care.Coordinates patient, family, significant other, and health team members in the planning of hospital and post-discharge care.ImplementationPerforms clinical nursing skills independently.Administers medications, IV therapy and treatments appropriately and accurately.Initiates appropriate emergency procedures as necessary.Appropriately delegates and coordinates the duties of ancillary personnel.Communicates the patient's status and plan of care through written documentation in the patient's medical record.Verbally communicates the patient's status to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.Communicates in a members of the Labor and Delivery leadership team and escalates concerns appropriately.Assist the Charge Nurse to proactively address staff, patient, and family concerns in a timely manner, coordinating appropriate services and resources to resolve issues effectively while ensuring follow‑up communication and service recovery when necessary.Contributes to workflow improvements and assists with data analysis.Develops, documents and implements Patient Teaching and Discharge Planning Record.LeadershipProvides leadership and oversight for scheduling and operational practice of the Resource Nurse role, working collaboratively with the Clinical Unit Manager to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and appropriate staffing coverage.Contributes to the development, refinement, and standardization of the Resource Nurse role across the unit.Serves as the shift resource for policy interpretation and decision‑making, while monitoring and reviewing the work performance of assigned
