Overview
Rental Power Generator Technician
The Rental Power Generator Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of rental power generators and related equipment. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in diesel engines, electrical systems, and emissions systems, with a strong preference for candidates experienced with CAT equipment and large-scale power generation units.
Wages
Starting wage will depend on experience and education. $47.60-$60.71
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on rental power generators and associated equipment
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and after-treatment system issues on diesel-powered generators
Work on large power generation equipment, including industrial and mobile generator units
Inspect and maintain Tier 4 Final emissions systems, including DEF, DPF, SCR, and related components
Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and ensure accurate repairs
Perform load bank testing and ensure generators meet operational performance standards
Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation accurately and timely
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and company policies
Communicate effectively with service managers and team members regarding equipment status and repair needs
Qualifications
3+ years of experience working on diesel engines and power generation equipment
Experience with Caterpillar (CAT) equipment strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of Tier 4 Final after-treatment systems (DEF, DPF, SCR)
Experience working on large generators (industrial or rental fleet preferred)
Proficient in diagnosing mechanical and electrical systems
Familiarity with CAT ET or similar diagnostic software is a plus
Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals
Valid driver's license required
Preferred Skills
Experience in rental equipment or power generation industry
Electrical troubleshooting experience (AC/DC systems, control panels)
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in shop and field environments
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in varying weather conditions
Ability to work overtime as needed.
Qualifications
One-year certificate or Associates degree from a community college or technical school; Minimum five plus year's of CAT dealer experience and ten year's heavy equipment industry experience or equivalent education and experience.
