The position provides technical and regulatory support by ensuring continued compliance with existing environmental regulations and monitoring and evaluating emerging environmental regulatory requirements for business impact and assisting in implementation. We are family owned with locations in Flowood and Vicksburg, MS; we pride ourselves on maintaining a small company feel.Environmental Specialist ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and provide subject-matter ownership for all environmental duties associated with air, waste, and water compliance for the facility.Own the preparation, accuracy, and timely submittal of required regulatory reports including Title V, CEMS, Form R, and Emissions InventoryDaily and monthly calculation and tracking of refinery fuel gas usage, Reid Vapor Pressure of permitted tanks and sulfur content of emergency generator fuel oil and tracking of engine hoursMaintain monthly inspection forms for drain hubs and junction boxes of process area sewer drains as required by title V Air Permit and subpart QQQExercises independent judgment in interpreting environmental requirements and recommending actions that impact regulatory compliance and operational riskGive guidance in remediation of releases to land and water and document releasesServe as the primary technical contact for reporting releases to regulatory authorities in accordance with applicable requirements.Ensure required record keeping is in order and up-to dateComplete Emergency Response Training and perform duties as assignedContinually developing skills and knowledge through trainingGenerate and maintain records of compliance with applicable regulationsGive recommendations and guidance on activities affecting the environmentIdentify, recommend, and lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Environmental Management System to enhance compliance and performance.Maintain current Person-in Charge (PIC) list.Environmental Specialist Skills/RequirementsHigh levels of Trust, Humility, Character, Integrity, Resolve, and Respect3 years of experience in the refining or chemical processing industry, preferredKnowledge of EPA, MDEQ, DOT, and USCG standards relating to the refining industryAbility to independently interpret environmental regulations, discern applicability, and translate requirements into operational actions.Requires a self-motivated person that is detail-oriented with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to effectively interact with all levels within an organizationStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and industry partnersDemonstrated technical leadership with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders through expertise and credibility.Ability to think strategically and simplify complex issuesExcellent technical writing and presentation skills, preferredProficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)The person selected must be self-motivated with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills and successfully complete and pass a Functional Job Capacity Evaluation (FCE).Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
