Electrical Engineering Specialist / Systems Architect

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Electrical Engineering SME / Systems Architect for an innovative and growing technology-dedicated engineering organization focused on advanced hardware, embedded systems and intelligent connected technologies. This is a true consulting opportunity, part-time hours to start with the potential to evolve into a full-time role for the right individual. This role is primarily remote with occasional onsite collaboration in the NYC metro area around once / qtr.POSITION OVERVIEW:This organization is seeking a senior-level Electrical Engineering subject matter expert to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and systems architecture guidance across a variety of prototype and R&D-focused hardware initiatives. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who enjoys solving complex embedded systems challenges while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team. This role is centered around innovation, rapid prototyping, and advanced product development rather than high-volume manufacturing or production-focused environments.PERKS:Flexible part-time consulting opportunity with long-term growth potential Opportunity to work on cutting-edge prototype and R&D-focused technologies including robotics, AI-enabled hardware, connected devices, and next-generation embedded systems across diverse industriesCollaborative, creative, and multidisciplinary engineering environment that values mentorship and knowledge sharing Competitive hourly compensation with flexibility based on experience, technical depth, and leadership expertise RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small electrical engineering and embedded systems team Contribute hands-on to firmware and software development using C/C++ and embedded development tools such as Arduino, Eclipse, and Zephyr Review and validate engineering designs, embedded architectures, testing processes, and technical documentation Support systems architecture decisions related to prototype development, IoT connectivity, and intelligent hardware systems Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and product development teams in fast-paced R&D environments Assist with troubleshooting, risk management, and resolution of complex hardware and firmware challenges Guide discussions around component selection, motor controls, wireless communication technologies, and rapid prototyping strategies QUALIFICATIONS:8+ years of experience in electrical engineering, embedded systems, or related hardware-focused engineering environments Strong hands-on experience with embedded firmware and software development in C and C++ Experience working in prototype engineering, R&D, innovation labs, startup hardware environments, or advanced product development settings Familiarity with systems architecture, embedded control systems, motor controls, and connected hardware technologies Experience with IoT systems and wireless communication protocols including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RF, and cellular connectivity Exposure to AI/ML concepts related to hardware, computer vision, edge AI, model training, or intelligent systems integration Strong communication, technical documentation, mentorship, leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This opportunity offers competitive consulting compensation range of $105-120/hr W2 commensurate with experience, technical expertise, and leadership capabilities. The organization provides a flexible and primarily remote work environment with limited onsite collaboration requirements in the NYC area.
