PLC Programmer

*Overview* SeaRobotics Corporation is seeking a highly capable PLC Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission advanced control systems for maritime and specialty equipment. The role spans maritime electromechanical systems — including U/ASVs, winches, launch and recovery systems (LARS), and robotic handling equipment — as well as ride control systems in the themed entertainment environment. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep expertise in real-time motion control, PLC programming in Structured Text, and the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering disciplines to deliver robust, safe, and reliable control solutions from design through field commissioning. The successful candidate will participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and cross-functional technical discussions as a senior contributor. Applicants must be United States citizens and must be able to satisfactorily complete any background check or security clearance requirements imposed by relevant U.S. government agencies. *Responsibilities* * *Control System Design & Programming* ▪ Design, program, and test PLC software using Structured Text (IEC 61131-3), emphasizing modular, maintainable, and well-documented architecture built around reusable Add-On Instructions (AOIs) or Function Blocks. ▪ Develop closed-loop motion control systems — position, velocity, torque, and tension — for winches, cranes, LARS, and electromechanical actuators in maritime and specialty applications. ▪ Interface PLC systems with servo drives and VFDs, encoders and resolvers, load cells, analog/digital sensors, and hydraulic/electric actuators. ▪ Integrate PLC systems with vessel control networks and plant-level systems via industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, CANbus, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC-UA, J1939, NMEA 2000, etc.). ▪ Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel drawings to support hardware integration and troubleshooting. *Safety & Reliability* ▪ Implement safety systems including interlocks, emergency stops, fault detection, and fault handling aligned with applicable functional safety standards (IEC 62061, ISO 13849, or equivalent). ▪ Apply systematic design practices to ensure system reliability in demanding marine and offshore environments. *HMI & Operator Interfaces* ▪ Develop operator interfaces using HMI platforms for real-time monitoring, system diagnostics, and operator control. ▪ Design HMI screens with a focus on operational clarity, alarm management, and operator safety. *Integration, Testing & Commissioning* ▪ Plan and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for control systems, producing formal test procedures and reports. ▪ Lead system integration and testing in both laboratory and field environments, including aboard vessels and in offshore settings. ▪ Commission deployed systems and provide ongoing technical support for fielded equipment as required. ▪ Troubleshoot complex control system issues efficiently under operational and time-sensitive field conditions. *Documentation* ▪ Produce clear, thorough technical documentation including software functional descriptions, I/O lists, FAT/SAT procedures, and system-level documentation packages. ▪ Maintain software configuration under version control with meaningful revision history. *Qualifications* * *Applicants must be United States citizens *and must be able to satisfactorily complete any background check or security clearance requirements imposed by relevant U.S. government agencies. * Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. * HMI development experience using FactoryTalk View ME/SE (Rockwell), Siemens WinCC, Ignition, or equivalent platforms. * Scripting or programming ability in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for analysis, simulation, or auxiliary tooling. * Experience with Git or other version control systems for software configuration management. Pay: $77,640.07 - $93,502.02 per year Benefits: * Dental insurance * Health insurance * Paid time off Application Question(s): * Are you a United States citizens ?
