Job SummaryThe Underground Utilities Technical Trainer is responsible for delivering technical training programs that support underground utility construction operations. With extensive field experience, the trainer provides instruction on plan interpretation, excavation methods, installation techniques, and coordination between project teams to improve field execution and construction quality. This role works closely with operations and project teams to align training with active project scopes and field conditions. Safety principles are incorporated into technical instruction as part of proper planning, coordination, and execution. This is an individual contributor role and requires travel to support training across multiple project locations. Key Responsibilities Technical Training DeliveryDevelop and deliver technical training programs for underground utility construction personnelProvide instruction on interpreting construction plans, profiles, elevations, quantities, and specificationsTrain employees on shallow trench, micro-trench, and deep cut excavation methodsInstruct on conduit installation, vault and handhole placement, backfill, compaction, and restoration requirementsTeach proper equipment application and limitations related to underground utility constructionCoordination and Field AlignmentCoordinate with operations and project management to align training with current project scopes and construction sequencingSupport alignment between design intent and field execution through technical instructionIncorporate project controls concepts such as quantity tracking, sequencing, and scope awareness into training deliveryAdjust training content based on field conditions, project requirements, and operational needsSafety IntegrationIntegrate safety principles into technical training as part of proper planning and executionReinforce hazard awareness related to excavation, equipment operation, and underground work as it applies to correct construction methodsPromote consistent field execution by emphasizing planning, coordination, and adherence to approved construction practicesTraining Records and DocumentationMaintain accurate training records, attendance, and documentationCoordinate training schedules with operations and training leadershipUpdate training materials to reflect current construction practices and project requirementsRequired Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 7 years of experience in underground utility constructionExperience with micro-trenching, shallow trenching, and deep cut excavationStrong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specificationsExperience installing underground conduit, vaults, and related structuresFamiliarity with municipal standards and inspection requirementsAbility to instruct adult learners in classroom and field environmentsAbility to maintain classroom structure and controlStrong communication and coordination skillsBasic computer skills for documentation and reportingValid driver s license and ability to travel frequentlyDesired Skills & QualificationsAssociate s or Bachelor s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or a related fieldCoursework or experience in adult learning or workforce developmentExperience with project controls, quantity tracking, or cost reportingPrevious experience providing technical instruction or mentoringExperience in telecommunications or utility constructionOSHA 500 Construction certificationAdditional InformationAll requirements may be modified to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
