Part-Time, Wildlife Research Intern *

Job Description:Raritan Valley Community College is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time, Wildlife Research Intern in the Science & Engineering Department.Wildlife Research Interns will be responsible for assisting ongoing research and restoration efforts related to the population ecology of white-tailed deer and their effects on local forests and communities in New Jersey. Data will be collected on deer populations in central and northern New Jersey. Responsibilities primarily consist of working in teams to conduct night-time surveys of deer using road-based spotlight and drone-based infrared surveys. Other activities include construction and monitoring of deer exclosures, and other research activities based on student interests. Interns must be available a minimum of one to two days/nights per week, and attend brief weekly organizational meetings with the lab group.Requirements:Must be a current RVCC student in good academic standing or a recent graduate.Interest and/or experience in ecology/conservation field work.Physical ability to perform manual labor outdoors under varying weather conditions for 6-8 hours/day.Must have personal transportation and be willing to drive up to 1-2 hours to field sites, as needed.Plant and/or animal identification skills.Interpersonal communication skills (written and oral).Ability to work independently and in teams.Preferred Qualifications:Ability to identify mammal species of the eastern U.S., preferred.Field research experience in zoology or forest ecology, preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically in Microsoft Excel.Proficiency with GIS, preferred.Application Instructions:As a New Jersey First Act Employer, new employees must establish a primary residence in New Jersey within one year unless an exemption applies.RVCC's starting salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
