This position will support the Multnomah County region. The Peer Support Specialist will meet each new resident at admission to the program and support the individual in feeling welcome, answer their questions, provide compassionate support, and guide them in articulating any self-determined goals they may want to work on while at the residential treatment facility. The position will engage in one-to-one conversations with residents to build trust, utilize strategic self-disclosure to build connection and normalize mental health challenges, and support individuals in connecting with community peer support systems. This position will facilitate and coordinate peer groups where residents can discuss their unique recovery stories and challenges. In addition, the Residential Support Specialist will receive crisis de-escalation training, which requires performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques. Successful applicants MUST also have a valid Oregon driver’s license, maintain a safe driving record, and have the ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to frequently talk, listen, use hands and fingers, sit, stand, walk, reach; as well as lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds. It may require the ability to occasionally climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, squat/kneel, and perform other physical tasks as applicable. In addition, you must successfully complete crisis de-escalation and CPR trainings, which require performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques.
