About the RoleWe are seeking a highly detail-oriented and knowledgeable Sales and Use Tax Accountant to join our finance team. This position is responsible for managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filings, and supporting audits and cross-functional tax initiatives.The ideal candidate will bring strong tax technical expertise, analytical skills, and a proactive approach to maintaining compliance and improving processes.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictionsEnsure timely remittance of tax liabilities and monitor deadlines to avoid penalties or interestReconcile sales and use tax accounts and prepare adjusting journal entries as neededRespond to state and local tax notices, including audit support and documentationMaintain and update exemption certificates and resale documentationCollaborate with Accounts Payable, Procurement, and AR teams to apply tax rules correctlyAssist with ERP system and tax engine updates (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) to ensure proper tax mappingStay current with tax law changes and implement necessary updates to compliance processesIdentify process improvements and automation opportunities within the tax compliance functionQualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMI a plus)2+ years of experience in sales and use tax or indirect tax complianceStrong understanding of multi-state tax regulations and nexus rulesExperience with tax software such as Vertex, Avalara, or OneSourceProficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple deadlines and work independently• Preferred Skills Experience in manufacturing, e-commerce, or other complex tax environmentsFamiliarity with taxability matrices, product/service classification, and customer tax profilesHands-on experience with Vertex O Series or similar tax enginesCompensation & Benefits Competitive salary range: $64,000-$86,000, depending on experience and locationComprehensive benefits package including:Medical, Dental, Vision Insurance401(k) with company matchHSA/FSA optionsPaid Time OffTuition ReimbursementLife & Disability InsuranceEmployee Discounts and moreAscendo is a certified minority owned staffing firm, and we welcome and celebrate diversity.
