POSITION SUMMARY: The primary function of the Set-Up Technician is to set up and troubleshoot programs or processes used in the manufacture of production parts, with assistance from Manufacturing Engineers.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (essential Functions Of Position)Nothing in this job description restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. For assigned area and products:Install and align vices, fixtures, and stops.Use the system to select and send programs to machines.Identify work offsets according to the engineering set-up sheet, including aligning indexers and/or vices and fixtures mounted to indexers.Set and identify tools per the engineering set-up sheet and select appropriate tool holders.Run all tools through the program, identify and correct problems to ensure conforming parts.Maintain knowledge of surface finishes and change tools as needed to maintain the finish.Utilize shop travelers in production to verify correct material and any additional work instructions that differ from customer prints.Follow prescribed quality procedures, including identifying all dimensions established at machining operations and checking dimensions via the in-process inspection sheet.Follow procedures for time reporting and scrap reporting via data collection to provide accurate job costing data.Adhere to prescribed safety procedures.Assist engineers with recommendations for fixture applications and alternative processing methods.Update CNC programs, inspection sheets, and set-up sheets as needed with engineer approval.Essential Education, Skills, Experience And QualificationsEducation: High School diploma or equivalent.Experience: Previous machining required.Ability to read blueprints.Ability to use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gage, and optical comparator with digital read out.NONESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS (not Necessary But Preferred)Understanding and application of GD&T.CNC Programming.Physical Demands And Work ConditionsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
