Manual Machinist

Pay Rate: $25.00-$35.00/hr Contract to HireManual Machinist- Addison, IL (All shifts available, OT available)This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual machine tools to produce high-quality custom gears and precision components in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications. Previous gear machining experience is mandatory to be considered.Shifts open1st 6:00am- 2:30pm2nd 2:30pm- 11:00pm3rd 10:00pm- 6:30amKey ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual machine tools including engine lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and related equipment.Machine precision components to specified tolerances and surface finishes.Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and job travelers.Perform layout work and calculate dimensions and tolerances using measuring instruments.Modify or repair existing components as required.Inspect completed parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measuring tools.Maintain adherence to quality standards and documentation requirements.Identify and report non-conforming parts or machining issues.Maintain accurate production records and inspection documentation.Maintain machines and tooling in proper working condition.Ensure safe operation of all equipment in compliance with company safety policies.Keep work area clean and organized in accordance with 5S principles.Follow all PPE and safety requirements.Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve machining challenges.Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.Assist with training and mentoring junior machinists when needed.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.3+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment in a manufacturing environment.Experience in precision machining or gear manufacturing preferred.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.Proficiency using precision measuring instruments.Solid understanding of machining fundamentals including speeds, feeds, and tooling.Ability to hold tight tolerances in a production environment.Basic math and trigonometry skills.AI Notice: Salem utilizes technology-assisted tools, including artificial intelligence, to support recruiting, applicant matching, and related employment processes.
