Manager, Underwriting Strategy & OperationsAbout the RoleWe're looking for an Manager, Underwriting Strategy & Operations to help shape the future of underwriting at Nirvana. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll guide a team of underwriters while helping define how modern, AI-enabled underwriting should operate.In this role, you'll combine deep commercial insurance expertise with operational leadership. You'll partner with product, engineering, and data teams to improve underwriting workflows, implement AI-powered tools, and create scalable processes that drive speed, accuracy, and strong loss outcomes.This role reports to the General Manager and manages a team of approximately five underwriters. If you're excited about transforming traditional underwriting into a faster, more data-driven discipline, this is an opportunity to build something meaningful in a massive industry.What You'll DoLead and develop a team of underwriters, setting clear goals and supporting their growth in a fast-paced environmentDrive operational improvements across underwriting workflows using automation, analytics, and AI-powered toolsImprove underwriting efficiency and decision quality through scalable processes and playbooksPartner with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to design and implement next-generation underwriting capabilitiesEvaluate complex commercial risks and guide the team on pricing, coverage decisions, and portfolio managementEstablish underwriting standards and best practices as Nirvana expands its non-fleet insurance offeringsMonitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability, growth, and customer experienceWhat You BringMust-HavesExperience in commercial insurance underwriting, ideally in a leadership capacityExperience managing or mentoring underwriters and leading a small teamBackground working in a high-growth or technology-driven insurance environment (insurtech or similar)Strong operational mindset with a track record of improving underwriting processes or efficiencyAbility to collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and data teamsNice-to-HavesDirect experience underwriting commercial auto risksExperience implementing AI, automation, or advanced analytics in underwriting workflowsFamiliarity with scaling underwriting operations in a startup or high-growth companyBenefits:Competitive salary & equityMedical, dental & vision insurance401k with company matchUnlimited PTOWork from home friendlyEstimated salary range for this position is $113,000–$135,000. The actual base salary will vary depending on multiple factors unique to each candidate, including location, job-related knowledge, transferable skills, work experience and our assessment of your level during the interview process.
