Our mission is to enhance crop health by improving growth, and defense, helping farmers achieve sustainable and productive agriculture.About the RoleSeattle R&D team of PI AgSciences is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join our research and development team focused on antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) for agricultural applications. The successful candidate will play a key role in the discovery, characterization, and development of peptide-based solutions that improve crop protection, enhance plant resilience, and reduce reliance on traditional chemical pesticides.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, screen, and evaluate antimicrobial peptides for efficacy against plant pathogens.Utilize computational biology, molecular biology, microbiology, and biochemistry approaches to optimize peptide stability, solubility, and activity.Conduct assays for in vitro and in planta antimicrobial activity.Investigate peptide mode of action, mechanism of resistance, and interaction with plant systems.Collaborate with strain engineering, fermentation and formulation teams to improve yield, enhance peptide delivery, stability, and field performance.Generate and analyze data to support patent filings, publications, and regulatory submissions.Work closely with cross-functional teams (fermentation, formulation, field testing, regulatory).Present findings in internal and cross-department meetings.Contribute to project strategy, timelines, and deliverables.Basic QualificationsPhD in Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology.Experience with peptide design (in computational or experimental optimization).Authorization to work in the United States.Preferred QualificationsPhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Synthetic Biology, or related fields, with 2+ years of postdoctoral experience in academia or industrial settings.Strong tracking record in computational skills for AMPs research.Proficiency in hands-on microbiological techniques and growth assays.Experience with plant–microbe interactions, plant pathology, or biopesticide is a plus.Strong data analysis, statistical, and scientific writing skills.No requirement on work visa sponsorship is a plus.Core CompetenciesInnovative, hands-on, and detail-oriented experimentalist.Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.What We OfferOpportunity to make a meaningful impact in sustainable agriculture by developing next-generation biological solutions.Collaborative and innovative environment with access to cutting-edge tools and technologies.
