Intramural Sports Official

Work Schedule: 1 - 6 hours per week; shifts based on operational need of the organization. This position will be working on campus.OVERVIEWAssociated Students, Inc. employs student-focused professionals with equity-mindsets. Established in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. ASI employees exhibit our values of integrity, honor, dedication, loyalty, and respect in every interaction with each other, our students, the campus community, and guests of Cal Poly Pomona.The Intramural Sports program strives to provide opportunities for the campus community to participate in over 20 different sports in a dynamic, fun, and recreational environment. Approximately 1,200-1,500 students participate in Intramural Sports leagues and tournaments each semester, including Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Flag Football, Softball, Tennis, Badminton, and more. The Intramural Sports Program employs about 60 students annually as Officials, Lead Officials, Assistant Supervisors, and Supervisors.POSITION DEFINITIONUnder the general supervision of the Competitive Sports Coordinator, the Intramural Sports Official assists in providing a fair and safe intramural sports events and activities.ESSENTIAL DUTIESEnsure compliance with Campus Recreation's rules, policies, and guidelines during intramural sports activities and eventsTrack scores, manage game play, and serve as a liaison to team captains for various intramural sports including basketball, flag football, hantis, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyballPrepare fields and courts (e.g. set up goals, pylons, cones, score tables); maintain intramural sports equipmentProvide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical servicesPresent professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer serviceDocument and report any equipment malfunctions or other facility hazardsAttend meetings and trainings as requiredPerform other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSDemonstrated ability to understand basic principles of the various intramural sports offeredAbility to learn and apply the rules and regulations of the various intramural sports offeredAbility to attend training, workshops, and on-field evaluationsDependable with the ability to make independent decisionsDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus communityDemonstrated ability to maintain professionalism, model sportsman-like conduct, provide quality customer service, and exhibit a positive attitude while interacting with intramural sports participants, spectators, and peersAbility to work evening hoursAbility to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingEMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITYEmployment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States. In addition, student employee must be currently enrolled in at least 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 8.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period. Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is occasionally performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including extreme heat. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, run, talk, see, hear, and utilize manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication. Must be able to utilize office equipment (telephones, calculator, copier, fax), sit, crawl, climb, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.Position subject to an occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Annual bloodborne pathogen training is required. The initial training must be completed before the employee is assigned duties that may result in exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
