Job Description PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific activities sponsored. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for the Sideline Cheer activity. Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors. Plan and administer Assistant Sponsor responsibilities. Plan activities that support school athletic teams. Ensure the Cheer/Dance Team participates in all Girls/Boys JV/Varsity home contests in basketball, football, and volleyball. Plan to support soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim in a promotion or "cheer section" during contests or events. Assist in the coordination of the program. Supervise students at practices and contests. Coordinate with athletic team Head Coach for transportation and game management. Maintain constant care of equipment and facilities, inspect all athletic equipment and facilities (verify inventory) and submit documentation to the Athletic Director. Organize and schedule regular practice sessions to develop students’ potential. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures. Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, exemplifying the highest standards of sportsmanship. Enforce regulations governing building use and hours. Arrange systematic return of all school equipment, maintain a correct inventory, and hold student participants accountable for equipment not returned per the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and arrange for the issuance of letters and special awards, reporting to the Athletic Director within two weeks after season completion. Work with the site-based Athletic Director to provide a solid program. Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications. Must complete MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid Requirement. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee student‑participants. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must have a Teacher’s Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching with hands and fingers; bending, stooping, lifting objects of at least 15 pounds; visual ability requires mono and color vision.
