Product Assembly Technician PSD Components Group
Product Assembly TechnicianThe Product Assembly Technician is responsible for the precision assembly, inspection, and functional verification of electrical and electro-mechanical components used in power transformer applications. This role specifically supports the assembly of load tap changer (LTC) components, complete load tap changers, and mechanical drive mechanisms, ensuring all products meet engineering drawings, quality standards, and customer specifications. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, experience with electrical assembly, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality in a manufacturing or industrial environment.Assembly & ManufacturingAssemble electrical and mechanical components related to power transformer load tap changers, including but not limited to:Diverter switch assembliesSelector switch componentsMechanical drive mechanismsActuators, gearing, shafts, linkages, and housingsPerform sub-assembly and final assembly operations according to:Engineering drawingsBills of material (BOMs)Work instructionsSpecificationsUse hand tools, torque tools, fixtures, and measurement instruments to complete assemblies accurately. Interpret mechanical and electrical prints, schematics, and assembly drawings.Quality & InspectionConduct in-process and final inspections to verify dimensional accuracy, alignment, and mechanical operation. Verify electrical continuity, insulation, and proper functionality per work instructions. Identify, document, and report non-conformances or assembly issues. Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.Testing & VerificationSupport functional testing of assembled components and mechanisms. Assist with mechanical cycling, operational checks, and validation of movement and timing. Document assembly completion and testing results as required.Safety & CompliancePerform work in accordance with company safety policies, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and quality standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly handle tools, components, and materials to prevent damage or injury.Collaboration & CommunicationWork closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve technical or assembly issues. Provide feedback on assembly procedures, tooling needs, and product design improvements. Support training and mentoring efforts for less-experienced technicians as needed.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred3+ years of experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly in an industrial or manufacturing environmentExperience assembling electrical or mechanical components, power equipment, or transformer experience strongly preferredAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and specificationsProficient with hand tools, torque tools, and basic measuring equipmentStrong attention to detail and workmanship qualityAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks in a shop environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience with load tap changers, breaker mechanisms, or heavy electrical apparatusFamiliarity with power transformer components or substation equipmentUnderstanding of basic electrical principles (continuity, grounding, insulation)Experience working in ISO- or quality-controlled manufacturing environmentsAbility to troubleshoot mechanical assembly issues independentlyAbility to follow standardized processes while identifying improvement opportunities
