Material HandlerThe Material Handler works as a member of a team to move finished product from production to various on-site locations.Responsibilities:Prepare product, trailer, and ground to safely unload productEffectively communicate with truck drivers, overhead crane and travel crane operationsLoading of trailersUnloading trailersProper dunnage placementLoad levelingProperly sequence loads onto trailerIdentify and report damaged or defective productOff load list, locate pieces of concrete product identified as being shipped that dayWork with mi-jack crane operator in safely proceeding to product's locationRig product to be lifted as neededSet timbers on trailer in preparation for product loadingUnhook rigging on product once laid on trailer correctlyWork as a part of a team assisting others as neededMust adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety regulations and policiesAbility to operate tablet to identify items to be loaded or offloadedHousekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly mannerScope of Authority:Highly supervisedTasks are typically assignedWorks as a member of a teamCharacteristics (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):Able to read a tape measureExperience using standard crane guide hand signals preferredAble to work on a teamHighly dependable with strong work ethicAble to understand, follow, and convey verbal instructions and hand signalsAble to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processesValues and demonstrates safe working behaviorsBasic reading, writing, and math skillsKnowledge of mark-up load stepsEffectively communicate with truck drivers, overhead crane, and travel crane operatorsKnowledge and maintenance of yard location systemEducation and Technology:High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred1-2 years of previous general construction or material handling experience preferredWork Environment / Schedule:Monday-FridayOutdoor environmentWork area is not climate controlled and may be exposed to changing weather and temperature conditionsUnscheduled overtime may be required depending on production needsPersonal Protection Equipment (PPE):Safety glasses - High-visibility vestGloves (various types) - Hearing ProtectionHard hat - Steel-toed shoesPhysical Requirements:This position requires standing for long periods of time, lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and bending, repetitive motion with medium force, and an ability to frequently climb up to 15 feet above ground using stairs.Disclaimer:This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
