Quantum Applied Scientist, Center for Quantum Computing, Device Team

Quantum Applied Scientist, Center for Quantum Computing, Device Team Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA is looking to hire an Applied Scientist on the Device Team, focused on integration R&D for superconducting quantum processors. The role requires deep expertise in design, fabrication, and characterization of superconducting quantum devices and a strong understanding of how materials, process integration, and device architecture impact qubit coherence and performance. Key Responsibilities Work at the unit cell level to integrate and evaluate new fabrication process modules and device design changes for superconducting quantum processors. Design and execute experiments to assess performance impacts, investigate unexpected results through rigorous analysis and follow‑on experiments. Leverage electromagnetic and circuit-level simulations to interpret findings and connect observations to underlying physical mechanisms. Coordinate with production and cross‑functional teams on engineering lots, short‑loop experiments, and prototyping runs to build the scientific foundation for next‑generation processor integration at CQC. Basic Qualifications Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals. Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language. Master’s degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent. Familiarity with cryogenic systems and low‑temperature measurement environments. 2+ years of hands‑on experience with superconducting quantum devices (resonators, transmons, or related circuits). Preferred Qualifications Experience using Unix/Linux. Experience in professional software development. Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams. Experience with flip‑chip or 3D integrated superconducting devices. Familiarity with tantalum or other refractory metal‑based superconducting circuits. Experience with loss characterization and SPR analysis in CPW or lumped element resonator geometries. Knowledge of Josephson junction engineering including oxidation control, under‑junction processing, and junction aging. Experience with cat qubit or bosonic qubit architectures. Track record of driving R&D from concept through hardware demonstration. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
