Training and development of self-directed teams promotes a work environment that encourages employee initiative, engagement and development.AccountabilitiesDuties and accountabilities include:Conducts own layout for assigned jobs which includes estimating labor hours, materials and support staff needed and maintains accurate record of labor and materials ordered.Diagnosing and repairing issues related to system performance or failure.Proficient with the use of hand and power tools essential to perform all assigned duties.Monitor building conditions in the energy management system.Maintain a spirit of cooperation, exercising self-discipline, diplomacy, and tact in dealing with all other university personnel.Work independently, without direct supervision, and coordinate work with others.Works under the direction of the plumber foreperson.Work closely with campus customers to understand their needs, to coordinate and schedule work and close out jobs.Work closely with other trades and members of facilities and provide assistance to team members as needed.Oversee outside contractors work to ensure Colgate standards are met and must be able to oversee apprentices and/or summer and casual wage hires.Recording work order entries, material and labor, in a timely and accurate manner.Professional Experience/QualificationsAt least one of the following is required:Certificate from a 4+ year accredited plumber apprentice program.Graduation from a 2 year trade school where plumbing skills were attained plus one year journeyperson level plumbing skills.Proof of four or more consecutive years as a full-time journeyperson in afield that uses the knowledge and skills required of a plumber.Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays for emergency repairs and shifts required.Preferred QualificationsExperience working with, and in, a high-pressure steam environment is preferred.Demonstrated ability to weld steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other specialty metals.A working knowledge of the following is desirable: 1) Control system principles 2) Steam boilers 3) Water conditioning equipment, 4.)
