Mechanical Application EngineerHuntsville, AL (Desired Location)Secondary preferences: Dallas, TX | Reston, VA | Columbus, OHRelocation Assistance AvailableWe’re hiring a Mechanical Application Engineer to support the design and development of offsite manufactured and modular building components for complex projects.This role is ideal for an engineer who can combine technical depth with practical execution. You’ll be involved in designing mechanical systems for modular and offsite construction applications, helping ensure each solution meets performance, safety, compliance, transport, and installation requirements. You’ll also work closely with internal engineering teams, manufacturing, and clients to move designs from concept through production and field execution.What you’ll do Develop mechanical system designs for offsite manufacturing products and systems across multiple complex projectsCollaborate with design, mechanical, electrical, structural, and construction teams to ensure integrated project executionCreate detailed engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical models or simulationsParticipate in client-facing and internal coordination discussions to solve design challenges, reduce risk, and finalize project solutionsMake sound engineering decisions in the review and approval of drawings, specifications, and project documentationReview vendor drawings and confirm alignment with engineering requirementsEvaluate materials and construction methods for performance, constructability, and cost efficiencyPartner with manufacturing teams to support designs that improve production, transportation, assembly, and field installationConduct shop and field visits to verify constructability and support operational successStay current on evolving engineering methods and innovations related to offsite and modular constructionContribute to research and development efforts tied to new product development and continuous improvementPrepare technical studies, specifications, cost estimates, and proposal evaluationsWhat we’re looking for Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution4+ years of experience in engineering analysis and design within a structural, mechanical, or related building systems environmentPE license preferredStrong communication skills with the ability to work across teams and interact effectively with clientsAbility to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiencesStrong technical writing and documentation skillsFamiliarity with applicable building and engineering codes such as ASCE, AISC, and IBCAbility to produce and manage engineering drawings independently and in coordination with broader design teamsStrong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project demands at onceSound judgment in engineering decisions and project executionAbility to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of workProactive, solutions-oriented mindsetAbility to manage deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-moving environmentExperience with engineering and design tools such as SAP2000, STAAD, Revit, Inventor, TEKLA, or similar platformsStrong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and intermediate Excel capabilityWhy consider this opportunity This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who wants to work on complex, real-world projects in the growing off-site and modular construction space.
