4's Class AssistantGeneral:Arrive a minimum of 20 minutes ahead of scheduled class for the teacher to fill you in. Please leave the classroom the way you'd like to find it in the morning. As an assistant you are the most valuable person to the teacher in the classroom.Classroom tasks:Help set up craft projects and chairsPrepare snacks and set out placemats, napkins, cups and fill water containersGreet children if teacher is still busy, otherwise engage with the students as they enter the room.Check that the outside door is lockedAssist children with projects, read stories and play with children as needed for the dayNever have your back to the class - if the teacher is busy at the craft table, play with the rest of the children in the room.Take children to the bathroom, music and seeds DO NOT leave children unattended in the bathroom or hallway.Wipe/sanitize tables before setting up snack and/or lunch. Check for gold stickers on the placemats-they indicate a food allergyWipe/ disinfect placemats and tables after snack/lunchAssist on playground. A minimum of two adults per class on playground. Please position yourselves at opposite ends of the playground. Watch bikes going past the cones, bikes going too fast, chalk being misused (writing on walls or play equipment) and that kids are having funClose sandbox and put toys in its place.Step in at circle time if needed. Including taking kids for cool down when needed or managing disruptive behavior.Take over classroom if teacher needs to step out.Let teacher or assistant know if you need to step out of the roomDismiss children, making sure their parents are present; they have their bags/lunch boxes, coats and art projects and notify parents of incidents.Help with room clean up until everyone is finished! If you are done with cleaning and still have time, offer to change out books, puzzles, toys.Wash all craft supplies,Combine baking utensils and snack supplies in dishpan for Anne to run through dishwasher.Sweep the floor.Vacuum classroom carpet, rugs and hallway in front of classroom doors and playground door.Take out garbage, recycle and compost and re-line cans. Black bag for garbage and clear bag for recycle (under sink)Attach and lay out cubby tags and attendance tags for the next classSpecial events:Attend field trips.Attend monthly staff meetings.Attend Dad's night and other special events.If there is an issue with a student, please bring that to the teacher's attention. It will then be the teacher's responsibility to notify the parents or director. This would include behavior issues, classroom concerns, feedback and disciple issues. Do not try to do this during class time.It is also important to remember to maintain student and teacher confidentiality.If you are having problems with the teacher or assistant, you are working with:> Ask for a time to be set aside to discuss areas of concern. If you do not get a satisfactory resolution or are uncomfortable initiating, please talk to the director.>If the problem is with the director or teacher and you feel it would be better to discuss it with Laura Stanger (the children's ministry director), please reach out to her for support.Communication is key to classroom success. And each day brings new challenges and successes somedays it is with the students and somedays it will be with our co-workers. Remember we all enter the classroom coming from different environments and home life. And that when we enter the classroom we need to be focused on the task at hand - offering a caring, nurturing environment for all.10 hours per weekTues. & Thurs.8:45 am -1:45 pmAny offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
