Contract Layout Specialist (Educational Publishing)
OverviewThe Contract Layout Specialist is responsible for executing high-volume layout, formatting, and production updates for K–12 instructional materials, including student editions, teacher editions, and assessments. This production role emphasizes speed, accuracy, and adherence to established templates and styles. The instructional materials are middle school mathematics and require equation and fraction formatting. This role is ideal for experienced layout specialists who can efficiently process revisions and maintain consistency across large sets of files. Key Responsibilities· Layout & Productiono Flow content into existing templates using Adobe InDesigno Apply paragraph/character styles, master pages, and formatting ruleso Place and adjust images, tables, and instructional elementso Ensure clean pagination, spacing, and visual hierarchy· Revisions & Correctionso Implement edits from content editors, QA reviewers, and client feedbacko Execute bulk updates across multiple related files or versionso Track and manage version control across iterative roundso Apply edits to illustrations, art, images, and graphics as needed· Quality Controlo Check for overset text, style inconsistencies, and formatting errorso Ensure alignment with design standards and brand guidelineso Flag missing assets, unclear edits, or layout conflicts· File Managemento Follow strict naming conventions and folder structureso Package files for print or digital deliveryo Maintain organized links and assets· Deliverableso Fully formatted InDesign files (INDD + packaged files)o Print-ready PDFs (when applicable)o Completed revision cycles within defined timelinesQualifications· Required Qualificationso Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesigno Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshopo Experience with multi-page publications (textbooks, workbooks, manuals, etc.)o Strong understanding of styles, templates, and content-development/production workflowso High attention to detail and ability to execute repetitive tasks accuratelyo Ability to meet deadlines in a production-driven environment· Preferred Qualificationso Experience in K–12 curriculum publishingo Familiarity with accessibility standards and structured contento Experience working with editorial markups and QA processesCompensation· $6.50 per page for “first pass” and $5.00 per page for “subsequent passes” for layout work and revisions.· $25.00 per hour for additional support tasks, such as combining PDFs, bundling files, etc.Contract Details· Must have an Adobe Creative Cloud license (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)· Flexible remote work with agreed-upon deadlines.· Must have reliable Internet access and ability to work with shared documents and collaborative tools.Core Values· We are Problem Solvers· We are Proactive· We are Adaptable· We incorporate Perspective· We are PurposefulECS Learning Systems, www.ecslearningsystems.com (Asteria Learning, Inc.) is headquartered in Spring Branch, Texas (just north of San Antonio).
