Senior Tax Manager
We are currently seeking a Senior Tax Manager for a well-established accounting firm in Albany, NY. The Tax Manager possesses the ability to assume full responsibility for directing client engagements along with supervising several engagements simultaneously. The Tax Manager oversees the performance of client service and all related activity including ensuring that the engagement team accomplishes assignments timely and on budget. This role contributes to the professional and technical development of staff through on-the-job interaction and training.This role will be responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of clients, ranging from high-net worth individuals to complex corporate entities (S-Corps, C-Corps, and Partnerships). This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic tax planning, and the ability to mentor junior staff within the CCH Axcess ecosystem.Additionally, the Tax Manager has begun to develop a list of potential referral sources to bring new business to the firm and participates in community activities for the purposes of business development. The Tax Manager should be developing expertise in one or more specific industry areas.Job DutiesReview business, individual and trust tax returns. Perform high-level review of complex federal and state income tax returns (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, and 1041).Develop effective working relationships with clients to learn their needs and provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance services.Manage a robust task list (averaging 30+ active engagements) ensuring all deadlines for extensions, filings, and PTET requirements are met.Lead tax strategies and year-end tax planning for corporate clients.Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing proactive insights into tax savings and compliance.Plan and manage tax engagements to ensure exceptional client service while meeting both internal and external deadlines, coordinate staffing, time budgets, billing, and realization rates. " Manage, develop, train and mentor staff including providing timely, specific, and meaningful feedback. You will provide technical guidance, perform detailed reviews of their work, and foster their professional growth through active mentorship.Identify new client and business development opportunities including cross-selling and opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients.Identify and research tax issues, develop resolutions, and prepare written conclusions.Develop industry expertise including staying current on regulatory and industry changes, implementing new standards and technical pronouncements, and contributing to staff development through sharing of industry knowledge.Maintain and promote the ideals, values, mission and vision of the Company.QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting or a related fieldMaster's degree in accounting or tax, preferredCurrent CPA License7 10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting, preferably within a mid-sized firm environment.Advanced experience with CCH AxcessTM Workflow, Tax, and Document is highly preferred.Ability to explain complex tax concepts (like basis adjustments or multi-state filings) to clients clearly and concisely.Expert knowledge of tax compliance and planning for individuals and businessesAdvanced knowledge of federal and state tax laws.
