Azure Network Architect

Cloud Network ArchitectOur client is seeking a Cloud Network Architect to lead the design and evolution of its cloud and hybrid networking landscape. This role will be responsible for building secure, scalable, and resilient network solutions across Azure cloud environments, branch connectivity, and enterprise security systems.This is a senior-level, hands-on architecture position needing extensive hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure networking, and will have broad ownership across network design, security strategy, and hybrid connectivity. In addition to technical leadership, this individual will play a key role in mentoring engineers and helping elevate the overall capabilities of the networking team.Key ResponsibilitiesCloud & Network ArchitectureDesign and implement cloud networking solutions within Microsoft Azure, including virtual networks, security controls, and connectivity servicesBuild highly available and scalable architectures leveraging services such as ExpressRoute, application gateways, and cloud-native firewallsEstablish and maintain enterprise network standards, blueprints, and long-term roadmapsEnterprise Connectivity & SD-WANArchitect and support SD-WAN solutions across a multi-site environment using Cisco MerakiOptimize branch connectivity, performance, and resiliency across distributed locationsSecurity & Network ProtectionDesign and manage next-generation firewall environments, including both Cisco and Palo Alto platformsImplement segmentation strategies, access controls, and Zero Trust frameworks across the networkLeverage tools within the Cisco security ecosystem (e.g., Secure Access, Umbrella, Duo) to enhance identity-driven access and protectionOperations & Engineering LeadershipAct as the escalation point for complex network issues and performance challengesLead technical design reviews and provide guidance on large-scale infrastructure initiativesDrive adoption of automation and infrastructure-as-code practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or PythonTeam Development & CollaborationMentor and support junior and mid-level engineers through coaching, design feedback, and knowledge sharingPartner with cloud, security, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated, enterprise-wide solutionsEvaluate emerging technologies and lead modernization efforts across networking platformsQualificationsCore ExperienceExtensive background (10+ years) in enterprise networking within complex, multi-site environmentsStrong hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure networking services and architectureProven experience designing and operating Cisco Meraki SD-WAN environments at scaleDeep knowledge of next-generation firewall technologies, including Cisco Firepower and Palo Alto NetworksAdvanced understanding of routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF) and L2/L3 design principlesExperience implementing segmentation, access control models, and Zero Trust architecturesProficiency in network automation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PythonAdditional StrengthsExperience with SASE and identity-driven security solutionsStrong troubleshooting capabilities across hybrid and multi-platform environmentsAbility to clearly document architectures and communicate complex concepts to varied audiencesDemonstrated experience mentoring or leading other engineersEducation & CertificationsBachelor’s degree in a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)Relevant certifications such as:Cisco CCNP or CCIEPalo Alto PCNSEMicrosoft Azure Network Engineer (AZ-700)Additional certifications within networking or security are a plus
