We are a small structural engineering firm poised to grow, located in Frankfort, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago. We perform structural design and consulting services for a variety of different clients across a wide geographical base. We have experience with many different building codes. We are dedicated to upholding the building codes in the entire design to ensure minimum required standards of safety are met and to help the permitting process run smoothly.A majority of our projects are small with a single engineer performing the entire design on each project. We work with many types of structures ranging from signs and billboards to single family residential, from miscellaneous steel structures to industrial, educational, healthcare, and commercial buildings. Our scope ranges from a single beam substitution to full building structural design depending on the client’s needs. We work for owners, architects, engineers, and contractors.Mission Statement:"To design safe, innovative, and efficient structures with excellence, optimizing cost and material use to fulfil our calling to glorify God and to love our neighbors as ourselves in every interaction with employees, clients, and communities."What to Expect-You will perform structural design and possibly minimal drafting.-Most projects are small in size and scope, you will move on to the next one quickly.-You won’t have a babysitter, so you must be self-driven and capable of independent work.-You will need to quickly develop a familiarity with the client’s specifications, practices, and construction methods, as well as with programs, staff, and operating procedures of the company. We have instructions and checklists to help with this.-Most work is in the office, but some local jobs may require meetings or structural observations on site.-We work four 9-hour days and a 4-hour Friday, so every weekend feels like a long one.-Retirement plan with company match and immediate vesting.A majority of projects are small miscellaneous steel structures including signage structures. We also work with concrete, wood, aluminum, and masonry. Experience with these materials is a plus; however, learning speed in dealing with new materials and structural systems is more important than specific material experience. After a brief onboarding time, you will begin designing independently.Education required: BS in Civil/Structural Engineering minimumLicensure required: EIT registration minimum, SE license comes with extra pay.Experience required: 1-5 years experience in structural engineering and design preferred. Knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI are required. Familiarity with current and past versions of the codes and standards is preferred. Familiarity with other local building codes not modeled after IBC is a plus. Knowledge of civil/structural engineering, including a strong foundational knowledge of statics, mechanics, materials science, and structural design and analysis.Proficiency with structural engineering software is required. RISA-3D, Excel, and Autocad, are used regularly. However, proficiency with any structural design software (Staad, Ram, Etabs, Sap, etc.) may be substituted for RISA-3D. Visual Basic, Autolisp, macros, programming knowledge is a plus, but not required. Although not a requirement, any BIM experience the applicant would bring to the table for discussions would be beneficial.We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position.
