Content Developer
Position Overview:The Content Developer II develops documentation, learning, and instructional content in a variety of formats that will help both Channel Partners and users of Mastercam use its products effectively.Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Research user needs and characteristics to support and recommend documentation and/or training requirements.Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to obtain the information necessary to develop accurate content, using Mastercam software and other available resources.Support the development of additional, focused content to supplement in-class training courses, including exercises and instructor notes to support and assist 3rd-party trainers who utilize the content.Write, edit, and produce clear, accurate, and appropriate content at a proficient level that may be published in the form of LMS training courses, video scripts, online help systems, multimedia files, Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files, or other formats as appropriate for the audience and content, gaining assistance from more experienced team members when needed.Create graphics to illustrate concepts and procedures, receiving direction and feedback from more advanced Content Developers.Assure the quality and accuracy of the content by coordinating technical reviews, incorporating reviewers’ suggestions and corrections, resolving questions, and performing or coordinating testing of programmed media and content, such as online assistance and LMS training courses.The ability to support and/or deliver world-class Mastercam product training to Resellers, Partners, Customers, and Employees.Provide peer editing to assist in technical editing and copy-editing for other departments. Ensure that the content delivered is aligned with the Mastercam Certification program and prepares students accordingly in the pursuit of their Certification.Create technical content that is concise and easily understood by diverse audiences. Learn the skills necessary to become advanced in creating content independently.Represent the documentation and/or training deliverables on Agile development teams. Copy edits prompts and UI strings. Analyzes development team user stories for documentation opportunities.Deliver world-class Mastercam product training to Resellers, Partners, Customers, and Employees as needed.Assist with product planning when deemed appropriate by the Technical Supervisor or management.Stay current with advances in the technical communications profession, technology, and tools through available training opportunities and self-driven learning (e.g., reading, research, etc.).Coordinate and support projects within the department or in cross-functional teams.May perform other duties as directed.Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communication, Instructional Design, or related field (i.e.. English, Journalism, Education, etc.). Manufacturing Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.4-5 years of progressively responsible documentation or training content development experience.Previous experience in a software development environment preferred. Agile preferred.Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.CAD/CAM or other manufacturing technology experience preferred.Working knowledge of current authoring tools, screen capture software, and Adobe Acrobat preferred.Experience with Agile software tools is a plus.Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and/or XML.Familiarity with creating task- and solutions-based content is a plus.Familiarity with certification exam item writing is a plus.Teaching or leading in-person or virtual training courses is a plus.Familiarity with content authoring software for producing training collateral and eLearning content (Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, etc.).Proven knowledge of Windows operating systems and networkingAbove average ability to work independently, with self-direction, to complete tasks or projects in a pro-active manner.Above average ability to multi-task while projecting a positive outward demeanor.Above average time management skills and the ability to work in a team successfully supporting others.Above average communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide accurate and timely information in a succinct and easy to understand manner.ABOUT MASTERCAMAt Mastercam, we are Shaping the Future of Manufacturing®.
