We're here to help our colleagues achieve success and offer an inclusive and collaborative culture where your voice is valued.The Director, Marketplace Planning runs the operating system for Marketplace.This leader ensures strategic priorities translate into coordinated execution, clear ownership, transparent progress, and predictable delivery across Marketplace Verticals (Air, Hotel, Ground), Marketplace Value, Platform & Delivery, and Engineering.This role is accountable for execution discipline, governance, prioritization frameworks, and delivery transparency — enabling Marketplace to operate as one coordinated system rather than independent functional teams.This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strong strategic judgment, operational rigor, executive presence, and the ability to influence across senior stakeholders.What You'll DoOwn the Marketplace Operating SystemDesign and run the Marketplace operating cadence (QBRs, product reviews, roadmap syncs, 180-day planning)Establish and maintain governance frameworks for prioritization, intake, and decision‐makingEnsure every initiative has clear ownership, defined success metrics, and aligned sequencingMaintain decision logs and accountability mechanisms across teamsDrive Roadmap Integrity & Delivery OversightMaintain a consolidated Marketplace roadmap across Verticals, Value, Platform, and EngineeringTrack progress against 180-day commitments and surface risks earlyFacilitate tradeoff discussions and escalation forums when priorities conflictEnsure cross-team dependency clarity and delivery alignmentLead Initiative Intake & Prioritization DisciplineOwn intake for new ideas, issues, executive asks, and cross‐functional requestsFacilitate prioritization tradeoffs with Marketplace leadershipPrevent scope creep and initiative sprawl through structured frameworksEnable Strategic Transparency & CommunicationDevelop and drive internal Marketplace communications strategyProvide consistent executive reporting on roadmap progress and delivery healthSupport senior leadership decision‐making with clear data and tradeoff framingBuild Operational InfrastructureEstablish performance dashboards and KPI tracking disciplineDrive operational tooling and reporting hygiene across MarketplaceContinuously improve planning, forecasting, and execution frameworksWhat We're Looking For10+ years in product operations, strategic planning, program leadership, or chief of staff roles within complex, cross‐functional organizationsProven ability to design and scale operating models in matrixed environmentsStrong executive presence with ability to influence senior leaders without direct authorityExceptional structured thinking and prioritization skillsExperience driving roadmap governance across product and engineering organizationsData‐driven mindset with comfort operating at both strategic and tactical levelsAbility to manage ambiguity and create clarity in complex systemsExperience in marketplace, platform, or multi‐sided ecosystems preferredWhy This Role MattersMarketplace Planning ensures Marketplace moves with clarity, discipline, and speed. Without this function, strategy fragments, priorities drift, and delivery slows.This role enables Marketplace to execute as a unified, high‐velocity system.LocationChicago, Illinois, United StatesThe US national base salary range for this position is from$130,200.00 - $241,800.00The national range provided includes the base salary that Amex GBT expects to pay for the role.
