Cable Technician (Commercial)
Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Structured Cabling Technician to support the installation, maintenance, and testing of structured cabling systems across commercial and industrial projects. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality low-voltage infrastructure solutions, including copper and fiber optic systems, while maintaining safety, accuracy, and efficiency in fast-paced job site environments.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, terminate, label, and test structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cablingPerform copper and fiber terminations, including patch panels, jacks, connectors, and enclosuresRead and interpret blueprints, schematics, and riser diagrams to execute installations accuratelyInstall and route cabling through conduit, cable trays, ladder racks, and pathwaysSet up and mount network racks, cabinets, and wall fieldsConduct testing and troubleshooting using certification tools (Fluke or similar) for copper and fiber systemsIdentify and resolve connectivity and performance issues in structured cabling systemsMaintain proper cable management, labeling, and documentation per industry standardsCollaborate with project managers, foremen, and other trades to ensure project timelines and quality standards are metFollow all safety protocols and OSHA guidelines on job sitesMaintain tools, equipment, and materials in a clean and organized mannerRequired Qualifications2+ years of experience in structured cabling or low-voltage installation in commercial environmentsHands-on experience with copper and fiber optic cabling installation and terminationAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and construction documentsExperience with cable testing equipment (Fluke testers, OTDR preferred)Strong understanding of TIA/EIA and BICSI standardsAbility to work at heights, on ladders, and in physically demanding environmentsValid driver’s license and reliable transportationPreferred QualificationsBICSI certification (Installer or Technician)Experience working in data centers, hospitals, or large commercial facilitiesKnowledge of DAS systems, A/V systems, or security cablingOSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certificationKey CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and workmanship qualityProblem-solving and troubleshooting abilityEffective communication and teamworkTime management and ability to meet deadlinesWork EnvironmentField-based role working on active construction and retrofit job sitesMay require overtime, weekends, and travel depending on project needsExposure to varying weather conditions and construction environments
