The Nurse Extern renders individualized, age specific, and indirect bedside nursing care based on the nursing process and under the direction of the Registered Nurse.ResponsibilitiesPerforms direct patient care activities according to the plan of care and as directed by RN. Recognizes early and subtle changes in patient condition and reports status to RN. Transitions care of patient by reporting patient status, individual patient needs, plan of care, current treatments and unfinished orders. Assists in providing emotional support to patient and families. Initiates life support measures and performs effectively during emergency/crisis situations. Assists nursing team in admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Documents patient vital signs, I&O, height/weight and ADLs. Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned QualificationsMinimum RequirementsEducation: Currently enrolled in a school of nursing at the senior level. Experience: Successful completion of three semesters of nursing school (entering last semester/block). Required to submit at least two letters of recommendation and skills checklist documentation from nursing instructor. Only those skills accomplished may be performed. Preceding skills to be monitored and evaluated by a RN when performed for the first time. Certification/Licensure: CPR Special Skills:Excellent customer service skills. Basic computer skills Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and physicians.
