The Controls Engineer II will develop control system designs, deploy and commission PLC code, and create graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. They will test code functionality before deployment, troubleshoot on-site, and collaborate with Electrical Engineering on control network architecture. Additionally, they will define electrical device requirements, support estimates, review customer standards, and develop recommendations for productivity improvement and cost reduction. Responsibilities Develop control system designs, deploy and commission PLC code, and develop graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. Test and emulate code functionality prior to on‑site deployment and testing. Troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment functionality on‑site during commissioning and testing activities. Collaborate with Electrical Engineering resources to support control network architecture requirements and design. Define electrical device requirements for system control. Support estimates for complex module development and system commissioning requirements. Perform reviews of complex customer standards, specifications, and documentation to determine system requirements. Develop recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction, and improvement in customer satisfaction. Complete the software quality process through the execution of complex module, subsystem, and system test procedures. Travel up to 60% of the year, working short duration assignments up to and including multiple 10/4 rotations depending on project requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field. Five years of work experience in the material handling industry or similar industry; a master’s degree may be considered in lieu of experience, with at least 3 years of work experience required. Experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming (including GuardLogix) and Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming (including Starter). Experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture. Experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings and understanding HMI programming. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven interpersonal and customer service skills. Working Environment The role is based in the Irving, Texas, USA location, with a hybrid work schedule—three days in‑office—for candidates based in the preferred location of Dallas–Fort Worth, TX.
