Come work for us as a federal employee and help support our mission.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustomer ServiceProactively engage and make a connection with customers.Ask questions and listen to customers' needs.Direct customers to merchandise and inform them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and STAR card.Cooperate and build positive inclusive and respectful relationships, taking accountability for your own actions and outcomes.OrganizationMaintain store appearance.Cross-sell products and know layout of the store.Make suggestions to customers on latest trends and promotions based on individual needs.Learn product features, keep up with trends, leverage company tools and technology to confidently provide product knowledge.Use a Point-of-Sale system to process cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards, and cash handling, including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customers.Complete various forms of paperwork, reports and reconciliation.Be the keeper of merchandise, complete all inventory processes and ensure items are properly checked in and accurately ticketed; may participate in periodic inventories.Be responsible for the security of cash, fixed assets and merchandise inventory.Provide direction on assignments, including prioritizing projects, tasks, managing merchandise and inventory.Adhere to assigned work schedule; ensure accurate and complete follow-through on work assignments.Supervisory RequirementsProvide effective leadership, demonstrating ability to direct, train and motivate associates and set a positive example.Provide coaching and feedback timely and professionally.Provide direction on work assignments and training to sales associates.Provide input to the Department Manager on associate performance.May open and close locations.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsModerate level of knowledge of products and merchandise.Provide training documentation to sales associates on product features.1–2 years of retail or relevant experience required; 1 year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to read, write and interpret instructional documents (safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals).Effective telephone etiquette.Basic math functions; use calculator and calculate percentages and ratios. Must be able to make change in American monetary units.Reasoning ability; multitask while being attentive to customers and flexible to business needs.Ability to work as part of a team, take initiative independently of direct supervision.Ability to defuse escalated exchanges and create win-win situations.Physical Demands / Work EnvironmentThis position involves constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, grabbing and standing for at least two consecutive hours. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Involves lifting at least 25 lbs and up to 50 lbs in some departments. Work is typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending on location.Other SkillsEnthusiastic, friendly and energetic with a desire to provide outstanding service.Work HoursAvailable to work a variety of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.May work across multiple departments based on business needs. The initial assignment is in the Lawn and Garden Department.BenefitsPaid annual and sick leave.Experience Requirements1 year responsible experience in clerical office or retail sales store work.1 year progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties constituting the principal work of the position.Substitution of education for experience: Study completed in a college, university or junior college above high school level may be substituted for one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience.
