Permit Technician Location: Altadena, CA (Onsite) Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Pay: $27.00-$30.00/hr Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Permit Technician to support a municipal Building & Safety Department in Los Angeles. This role is responsible for assisting customers, processing permit applications, supporting plan check activities, issuing permits, and ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have prior municipal permitting experience, strong customer service skills, and an active Permit Technician certification. Key ResponsibilitiesAssist contractors, homeowners, architects, engineers, and the public in person, by phone, and via emailProcess permit applications and construction-related documentsSupport plan check workflows and permit issuance activitiesCalculate permit fees, collect payments, and maintain accurate recordsUtilize automated permitting and permit tracking systemsReview permit applications for completeness and compliance with established proceduresMaintain permit files and documentationPrepare reports and provide administrative support as neededDeliver exceptional customer service while handling a high volume of inquiries Job Requirements Qualifications - Must have's High School Diploma or GEDMinimum 2 years of experience as a Permit Technician or in a closely related roleExperience processing permit applications and supporting plan check functionsExperience using automated permit tracking or permitting softwareStrong customer service, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to interpret building records, permit documents, and basic construction plansProficiency with computers, including spreadsheets and permitting systemsValid California Driver's License may be required Required Certification Candidates must possess a current Permit Technician certification issued by a recognized code organization. Acceptable certifications include, but are not limited to: ICC (International Code Council) Permit Technician CertificationICCBO Permit Technician CertificationIAPMO Permit Technician CertificationOther equivalent Permit Technician certifications issued by nationally or regionally recognized code enforcement, building safety, or code administration organizationsPlease note: A valid Permit Technician certification from one of the recognized organizations listed above, or an equivalent recognized code certification, is required for consideration.
