Failure Analysis Engineer

Lightwave Logic (Nasdaq: LWLG) is a publicly traded materials development company that is conducting cutting-edge work to commercialize its proprietary organic nonlinear polymers for a variety of electro-optic devices and pushing the state of the art in high-speed fiber-optic telecom and data communications. Our development roadmap is designed to disrupt the industry by introducing organic modulators and related photonic integrated circuits that offer superior speed, lower power consumption, and smaller size compared to current technologies. Our materials are extendable into other applications, including sensors and quantum computing. Overview The Failure Analysis Engineer (F.A. Engineer) will conduct investigations into issues associated with electro-optic polymer-based devices. Also, the F.A. Engineer will work across the organization to find the root source of the failures, seek corrective action and help ensure corrective actions taken actually corrects the problem. This includes collaboration with the Synthetic Chemistry Dept. The Process Chemistry Dept., the BEOL fabrication Depts, and the Device Design Department. The F.A. Engineer will ensure precise data collection and maintain data integrity by using measurement tools according to SOPs written and maintained by the engineering community. The F.A. Engineering role emphasizes the ability to deconstruct the problem possibilities down to constituent materials, processes, and device characteristics, run experiments to isolate which of these constituents is creating the failure, and establish experiments to prove out corrective actions.ResponsibilitiesPerform electro-optical characterization of thin film samples (including Teng-Man, UV Vis, etc) and device measurements such as Vpi, optical loss, and RF probing, following established protocols.Execute or outsource additional measurements required per FA scenario (e.g., SEM, TEM, AFM, SIMS, etc).Compile raw measurement data and manage a failure analysis database to maintain data integrity and provide data reporting for FA projects.Report regularly on FA projects to the entire Engineering team.Follow instructions, including standard operating procedures and processes.Initiate and own FA projects, driving them to completion.Demonstrate exacting attention to detail, which is essential for this position.Exhibit safety awareness, safe work practices, and laboratory hygiene.Other duties or projects as assigned.Qualifications:Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field, with at least 4 years of industry experience.Ability to analyze data and formulate experiments to extract issues, which is a key function of the F.A. Engineering position.Solid knowledge of common failure mechanisms in semiconductor and optical devices.Expertise with scientific data analysis and plotting software (e.g., JMP, Origin, or similar) is required.Hands-on experience with characterization techniques such as SEM, optical measurement tools, thin film handling, and Silicon Photonic device measurements is preferred.Basic scripting or coding literacy (Python, MATLAB, etc.) for data automation is preferred.Familiarity with Microsoft® Office suite and data organization.Good written and oral communication skills.A spirit of teamwork and cooperation within the group, working closely with a team.Benefits Lightwave Logic offersa highly competitive compensation package including stock options, as wellas comprehensive benefits including fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage (employee and family).a generous PTO policy, $500/year(prorated) company contribution to your medical FSA, and a 401K (safe harbor,4% match).EEO StatementLightwave Logic is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
