Purchasing Manager (Manufacturing experience is essential)Location – Waukegan, ILMonday – Friday, Day Shift onsite$75,000 – $115,000 + benefitsDirect hire, full time permanent positionYou will be working for a well-established manufacturing and supply chain business supporting high-volume production operations across North America. Our client is recruiting for a Purchasing Manager to join their team in return for a salary in the region of $77,000 – $115,000.The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for overseeing procurement operations, managing purchasing staff, driving supplier performance, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of raw materials and packaging supplies to support manufacturing operations.Duties and responsibilities of a Purchasing Manager:Lead and manage the purchasing/buying team, including training, mentoring, and performance management.Develop and execute procurement strategies to support production schedules and operational goals.Manage purchasing activities for raw materials, packaging materials, plastics, corrugate, films, and manufacturing supplies.Oversee supplier relationships, vendor negotiations, and supplier performance improvement initiatives.Drive cost reduction initiatives and support inventory optimization strategies.Collaborate with Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure material availability.Monitor purchasing KPIs including on-time delivery, inventory levels, lead times, and supplier performance.Support MRP and ERP system optimization to improve procurement and inventory processes.Manage high dollar amount purchasing spend within a manufacturing environment.Ensure compliance with procurement policies, quality standards, and company procedures.Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and JIT principles.Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.7+ years of experience within procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management in manufacturing environments.Experience managing a team of Buyers5+ years of leadership or management experience overseeing purchasing teams.Experience purchasing raw manufacturing materials, packaging materials, plastics, films, corrugate, or bulk chemical materials.Strong ERP/MRP systems experience is required.Experience managing high dollar amount purchasing spend and supplier negotiations.Strong understanding of inventory management, Lean Manufacturing, and Just-In-Time (JIT) processes.Excellent negotiation, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities.Excellent employment benefits which include generous Paid Time Off (PTO), paid holidays, 401(k), medical, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, and additional company benefits.How To ApplySimply click apply, or contact Sam Wild at Axion Recruitment IncOffice: 945-256-5118Email: sam@axionrecruitment.comThis position is commutable from Waukegan, Gurnee, Kenosha, Libertyville, North Chicago, Vernon Hills, Mundelein, and Lake Forest.Relevant Job Titles: Purchasing Manager, Procurement Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Strategic Sourcing Manager, Materials Manager, Procurement Supervisor, Senior Purchasing Manager, Commodity Manager, Purchasing Lead, Supply Chain Procurement Manager.Due to the sheer volume of applications, we will only contact successful applications.
