Sr Project Architect - Aviation

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
Ensure overall design intent established by the Sr. Project Designer is incorporated into detailed documentation.
Monitor design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring consistency and proper execution.
Provide technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project.
Work with Specification Writer to develop specifications and coordinate drawings and specifications.
Check completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
Set overall strategy for producing documents and identify sheets planned for each stage of the work, including BIM organization.
Set up project team software parameters and manage standards.
Foster and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors, providing support to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements.
Ensure construction detail documentation conforms to QA/QC and best practice standards.
Supervise preparation of technical drawings by less senior architects or technicians.
Act as team leader on certain projects and mentor less experienced staff.
Takes personal responsibility for fostering sustainable practices and client service.
Client Interface
Develop a positive relationship of trust with client leadership.
Communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements, specifications, and progress reviews.
Coordinate delivery of final presentation.
Teamwork
Receive project direction from the Principal in Charge and technical direction from the RBU Technical Principal.
Coordinate use and track shared documentation with team, clients, and consultants.
Assist in planning and conducting work, making minor adaptations to complete drawing sets.
Coordinate approvals with municipal building departments and other governing agencies.
Write reports and memos to consultants and vendors, issuing changes and tracking resolutions.
Provide technical support and project communications as required.
Attend on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings.
Prepare and coordinate review of contractor schedules, shop drawings, and samples.
Assist the Specification Writer in product research, consulting manufacturers, evaluating and selecting materials.
Engage in specification set-up and drawing coordination, research, and use of HOK Standards.
Provide support to team members for specific expertise areas.
Participate in meetings to resolve project issues, coordinate disciplines, and maintain schedule adherence.
Review project costs and budgets, and prepare meeting minutes of consultant coordination meetings.
Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and models for client/project team review.
Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
Business Development
May participate in business development meetings with team leaders to target specified projects, clients, or market opportunities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Experience in aviation projects required.
Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent education or experience required; Master's degree preferred.
16+ years of design experience.
Licensed Architect with current registration required (if licensure offered in your region).
NCARB registration preferred.
LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Advanced knowledge of aviation operations and design.
Advanced knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.
Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
Advanced knowledge of QA/QC processes.
Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents.
Advanced knowledge of Construction Administration Process.
Proficiency in Revit (preferred).
Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as SketchUp, Rhino, and Grasshopper (preferred).
Proficiency in the Affinity software suite (preferred).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to meet deadlines effectively.
Ability to lead teams and work effectively with other project leaders.
OTHER
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Job duties and requirements may be altered or supplemented at any time at the sole discretion of HOK.
Compensation : Based on experience, qualifications, education, and location. The estimated annual salary range for Washington D.C. is $120,000 - $135,000.
