Instructional Assistant - General Education - VA Preschool Initiative

Tasks performed are specific and recurring; procedures are outlined in detail. Employee has some control over own work, but ultimate responsibility lies with assigned teacher. This position may be required to ride the bus with students as needed.Job Description:Essential Job Functions:Assists the preschool teacher to ensure the safe arrival and departure of children each day.Assists teacher in supervising children during center instruction; helps develop instructional materials.Carries out program activities with small groups of children including "plan, do and review", gross motor skills, play activities, teaching personal hygiene and social skills.Prepares breakfast and lunch for children during center time; supervises children during these meals with VPI children.Monitors behavior and enforces disciplinary rules.Assists VPI teacher with home visits, parent workshops and activities as deemed appropriate.Attends training and staff development as deemed appropriate.Consistently demonstrates a positive and professional attitude, a willing spirit, as well as a sense of team commitment and a pleasant demeanor.This position may be required to ride the bus with students as needed.Carries out other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Some knowledge of early childhood development principals and best practices in early childhood education behavior; of behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Some knowledge of the VPI requirements as well as local requirements. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with preschool children, parents, students and staff to implement programs. Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision, including high pressure and difficult situations. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with the VPI teacher in developing and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children.Additional Job Requirements:High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.Instructional Assistants working in Title I Schools must also meet the following minimum state requirements:Has passed the Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum score of 455 orHas a minimum of 48 semester hours/credits from a regionally accredited college or universityCollege transcripts or parapro scores must be submitted to be considered for this position.Applicants considered for employment must successfully complete the following background investigations/tests:Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History InvestigationState Police Criminal History InvestigationChild Protective Services (CPS) InvestigationTuberculosis Screening/TestCompensation$23,515.92 - $41,938.04Hours Per Day7.5Days Per Year183BenefitsChesterfield County Public Schools offers a wide variety of benefits to employees.
