Given the specialized nature of their work, they operate in a relatively unique market with limited direct competition, providing a level of stability that can be difficult to find in the construction industry. This is more than a traditional Controller role. The owner is looking for someone who can take ownership of the financial function, help him understand what is happening in the business and bring ideas to the table. You'll have a lot of visibility into the business and will be expected to ask questions, dig into the numbers and understand what is really driving them. There is an opportunity to improve processes, systems and controls, so this is a good fit for someone who enjoys figuring out what isn't working and putting a better process in place. You'll need to be comfortable being hands-on with the details while also stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. If you're looking for a role where you can maintain the status quo, this probably isn't the opportunity for you. If you're looking for a new challenge where your opinion will not only be valued, but sought after, this could be a great match.Controller ResponsibilitiesOwn accounting across 2 primary operating companies and related holding companiesLead closing, reconciliations, GL maintenance and timely cash-basis financial reportingProvide clear financial reporting, variance analysis and insight into business performanceBuild/manage budgets and forecasts, track actuals vs. budget and support ownership decisionsOversee project costing and profitability, ensuring costs hit the appropriate jobs/entitiesImprove project margin visibility and identify issues with costs, billing and transfersManage cash flow, working capital, forecasting and banking activityStrengthen internal controls and accounting processes across the businessOptimize accounting systems and reduce reliance on manual reportingLead the accounting team (4) while improving processes, accountability and efficiencyCoordinate with the CPA on tax compliance, reporting, lender needs and insurance auditsController QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting required7+ years of progressive accounting including people leadership experienceStrong full-cycle accounting experience including leading month-end closingExperience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysisExperience managing multiple entities and/or complex accounting systems and processes
