Supreme Court & Appellate Associate – Patent Appeals & IP (2-7 years)Location: Multiple U.S. Offices (Major US City Markets)Practice Area: Appellate | Intellectual Property | Patent LitigationOverviewA nationally AM100 Law recognized Supreme Court & Appellate practice is seeking a lateral associate (2–7 years) with a strong background in patent appeals and intellectual property.This team handles a high volume of bet-the-company and industry-shaping appeals, including matters before the U.S. Supreme Court, Federal Circuit, and other appellate courts nationwide. The practice also plays a critical role at the trial level through an “appellate eyes” approach—shaping key motions and preserving issues for appeal.This is an opportunity to work alongside a deep bench of elite appellate attorneys, including former federal clerks, government appellate lawyers, and leading practitioners, on some of the most complex and high-profile IP matters in the market.Key ResponsibilitiesFocus on Federal Circuit patent appeals and IP-related appellate mattersDraft appellate briefs, petitions for certiorari, amicus briefs, and other key filingsConduct advanced legal research and analysis on complex patent and IP issuesAssist in developing appellate strategy and argument positioningPartner with trial teams to preserve appellate issues and build the recordParticipate in moot courts and oral argument preparationAdvise on appellate procedure, risk assessment, and strategic considerationsEngage with technical subject matter across high-tech and life sciences industriesQualificationsJ.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentialsAdmission to at least one state bar; Federal Circuit admission preferred2–7 years of appellate litigation experience, ideally with patent/IP focusPrior judicial clerkship experience (Federal Circuit or patent-heavy district courts strongly preferred)Proven experience drafting appellate briefs and substantive motionsExceptional research, writing, and analytical skillsAbility to translate complex technical and legal concepts into clear, persuasive argumentsStrong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlinesCollaborative mindset with strong communication skillsPreferred (Not Required):Experience with life sciences patent matters, including Hatch-Waxman, BPCIA, or competitor litigationWhy This OpportunityWork on high-stakes, precedent-setting appellate mattersBe part of a top-tier appellate practice with national recognitionGain exposure to both appellate litigation and trial-level strategyCollaborative, team-oriented environment with strong mentorship and training
