The Bookmobile Operator will assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating outreach services that align with the Library’s strategic goals of enriching lives, inspiring minds, and fostering connections.The Bookmobile Operator is part of the Library’s Community Engagement team and will provide mobile services that include regular library functions, informative presentations, instructional classes for technology utilization, early literacy story times, and engaging programs at various community locations. This position will be responsible for training and supervising volunteers assigned to ride along and assist with mobile services. The Bookmobile Operator will work with the Marketing and Outreach Specialist and Library Administration to collect and analyze outreach statistics to help refine services and better serve the community.Essential FunctionsThe list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the major tasks performed within this classification. Specific tasks on a day-to-day basis will reflect the overall areas of expertise for this position.Safely drives and operates the Bookmobile along scheduled routes, ensuring timely arrivals and departures at designated stops.Provides information about library services, policies, and upcoming events.Curates patron experiences through activities, presentations, story times, tutorials/classes, readers advisory, and by providing exemplary customer service.Maintains cleanliness and organization of the Bookmobile, restocking and arranging collection materials and technology for easy usage.Performs routine vehicle maintenance checks.Follows all local, state, and federal traffic regulations while operating the vehicle.Actively promotes Library services and programs by distributing materials, planning and conducting story times and programming for patrons of all ages, and assisting with community events.Assists at service desks, including circulation and youth areas in the library, as needed.Provides reader advisory, literacy support, and assistance on the use of computers, databases, printing, Wi-Fi, and electronic devices to patrons of all ages.Assists with the setup and teardown of library events at bookmobile stops.Operates a variety of office equipment and library machines.Maintains confidentiality of library membership records and processes library card applications.Assists patrons with library materials and on-site technology via the bookmobile.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrated ability to think logically, exercise initiative, and act in the best interest of the library.Pleasant, outgoing personality that likes responding to and taking care of people of all ages.Proficient in oral and written communication, technology, and social skills.Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations.Enthusiastic self-starter who can perform duties with moderate supervision following established procedures and deadlines.Follows established procedures and deadlines while demonstrating a positive attitude in all situations with members and library peers.Dedicated to being a part of a team.Ability to use computer technology, library automation systems, and office equipment, and an aptitude for learning the use of new technology.Ability to produce and maintain accurate records.Ability to communicate easily and clearly on the phone, in person, and in written correspondence.Ability to communicate effectively, patiently, and courteously with City employees, the Library Advisory Board, library members, and other community members.Knowledgeable of general office skills and tools, including various technologies such as laptops, computers, printers, Wi-Fi hotspots, e-readers, and audio-visual equipment.Ability to learn and implement library systems and procedures.Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously while working effectively within a team model.Skill in attention to detail and accuracy.The statements contained in this job description reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions of this job, the level of knowledge and skill typically required and the scope of responsibility. Minimum of one year of quality customer service experience, prior library experience preferred. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, have an excellent and safe driving record, and demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse population. Position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and adherence to traffic safety and Library policies.Special RequirementsDuties are performed on a part-time basis and require availability for a flexible schedule during regular workdays, evenings, and weekends. Weekly work schedule may vary due to demand staffing. Meet FEMA requirement for NIMS certification. Every New Port Richey employee is required to fill out a Disaster Response Survey and is subject to being required to report to work during a declared disaster.Physical DemandsPhysical Ability:This job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception and depth perception. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time. Ability to see and hear appropriately to safely operate a vehicle. The employee must be able to push heavy book carts weighing up to 150 pounds and have the ability to lift, carry and put away parcels weighing up to 25 pounds. Task involves regular and at times some physical effort, i.e., sitting, driving, climbing, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, pushing, kneeling, pulling and moderate lifting; and standard dexterity is the use of fingers, hands, limbs or body in the operation of vehicle and equipment.Sensory RequirementsAbility to hear, speak and understand conversations in English in various tones of voice. Adept at listening to and understanding others from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Ability to see, read, and comprehend letters, numbers, words, characters or symbols, which are both large and small. Ability to print draw letters, numbers, words, characters and symbols which are legible and understood by others. Ability to learn complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.Work EnvironmentWork often is outdoors. Task may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions including rain, dust, fumes, gases, limited lighting; may be exposed to constant and at times heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic; work is performed while sitting and driving a vehicle and assisting with materials at designated stops. Administrative and other work is performed under typical office conditions and in every room of the Library where operations are conducted. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be noisy in open locations and programming areas. By the very nature of public libraries, it is very busy, with shifting demands from the varied public. Ability to deal with stress related to routine deadlines and occupational problems which demand immediate attention. Necessity to multi-task successfully.
