Candid currently has an opportunity for a Senior Research Analyst. The Senior Research team leverages Candid’s comprehensive data about nonprofits and grantmaking to shed light on the social sector. As a member of a collaborative team, the Senior Research Analyst contributes to Candid's research and data analyses, creating insights and building knowledge about the sector’s scope, equity, economics, and impact. The Senior Research Analyst collects, cleans, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to support Candid’s research and analytic initiatives.Position: Senior Research AnalystReporting to: Director of ResearchSupervises: N/ASchedule: 35-hour work week, Monday through FridayCompensation: $60,000 - $87,000 (this range is for the NYC area and will be adjusted for other localities; additionally, factors like skills and experience will be considered).Location: Remote. In-person attendance is required twice per year during our annual, weeklong all-staff summits. Additional in-person meeting participation is expected at least once per quarter for senior leaders and at least once per month for the executive team. Staff not located in the NYC area are required to travel for these meetings.Benefits: Health insurance (medical, dental, vision), retirement contribution with additional option for a match, paid life insurance and AD&D, paid leave time (PTO, compassionate leave, volunteer, holiday, parental), short-term and long-term disability, pre-tax transit, flexible spending accounts, supplemental insurance, summer hours, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program eligible employer.ResponsibilitiesWork with a team to formulate and answer research questions about the social sector using Candid’s dataRetrieve, review, clean, and code quantitative and qualitative data about nonprofit organizations and grantmakingWrite SQL queries against large relational databasesPerform quantitative and qualitative data analysisConduct literature reviews and landscape analysesExecute surveys, including instrument programming, contact list management, and respondent outreach and follow-upSynthesize findings and translate them for a broad, non-technical audienceContribute to written reports and publications, and help craft presentations for varied audiencesAct as a research subject matter expert for cross-functional initiatives, including collaborating with product, technology, or data science teams as requestedRespond to internal and external requests in a timely and thorough mannerIndependently manage delegated project tasks and timelinesRequirementsB.A./B.S. in a field related to data analysis or nonprofit research (e.g., data science, data analytics, economics, statistics, public policy, sociology, philanthropy, or nonprofit leadership) plus minimum 3 years of professional research experience. Equivalent experience will be consideredKnowledge of social science research methods and core principles of statistics or data scienceExperience working with large, complex datasets that require cleaning and transformationExperience using SQL Server Management Studio to write queries against large relational databasesAbility to conduct basic quantitative analysis using Python or RWillingness to learn and use AI toolsHigh attention to detail, particularly in maintaining data integrity, being able to detect data anomalies and inconsistencies, and writing accurate, precise codeThrives in a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environmentStrong critical thinking skills, with the ability to diagnose problems and develop practical solutionsCommunicates clearly and professionally in all interactions, both written and verbalAptitude and willingness to learn new applications as opportunity and need ariseExperience fielding surveys a plusFamiliarity with the U.S. nonprofit and philanthropic sectors a plusWillingness to perform other duties and special projects as needed/requested.Sensitivity and respect for racial, gender, sexual orientation, and cultural differences.Commitment to Candid's values: driven, direct, accessible, curious, and inclusive.
