We are currently seeking a Floor Sommelier to join our team at Rich Table! This position is ideal for a hospitality professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values genuine hospitality, and is excited by the opportunity to support day to day operations within a growing hospitality group.
Position: Floor Sommelier
Classification: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Reports To: General Manager
Summary of Position: At Rich Table, our core purpose is to exceed the expectations of our guests. The Floor Sommelier provides knowledgeable, approachable wine service while helping lead the flow of service and support the FOH team. This role helps keep the floor running smoothly and leads by example through genuine hospitality, strong communication, and wine knowledge. The Floor Sommelier provides direction and support during service but is not a management or supervisory position.
Role Scope: The Floor Sommelier provides service related direction and support to the FOH team but does not have independent management authority. Formal discipline, staffing decisions, scheduling, hiring, termination, pay decisions, and other personnel matters remain the responsibility of management.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Wine Service and Guest Experience
Stay present and engaged on the floor, keeping an eye on new tables and guest needs throughout service
Introduce guests to the wine program and help them choose wines based on their tastes, food, and budget
Know the wine list well, including producers, regions, varietals, vintages, winemaking styles, and food pairings
Confidently present, open, decant, and serve wine, checking each bottle for quality and ensuring it is rung in correctly in Toast
Offer thoughtful alternatives when needed and help drive wine and beverage sales while keeping the guest experience first
Communicate important guest and service information clearly with the FOH team, kitchen, and management
Floor Leadership & Service
Serve as a point of support and direction for the FOH team during service
Help coordinate floor coverage, breaks, and service needs based on management direction
Reinforce Rich Table’s steps of service, hospitality standards, and established procedures
Help newer team members learn the flow and expectations of service
Recognize service issues early and help address them before they escalate
Lead by example with a calm, professional, and team-focused approach
Bring guest, employee, or operational concerns to management when a management decision is needed
Beverage Program & Operations
Receive wine deliveries, review invoices, price wines using established guidelines, and stock product as directed by management
Maintain wine inventory and keep refrigerators, service areas, stemware, and wine tools organized, stocked, and ready for service
Maintain accurate wine menus and pricing, make updates in Toast, and print restaurant menus
Help with daily administrative tasks, including answering phones, responding to guest emails, and completing wine sales reports
Participate in inventory counts and report discrepancies, breakage, or damaged equipment
Complete assigned opening, closing, side work, and end of shift responsibilities
Stay current on the food/beverage menus through tastings, wine study, and ongoing education, and serve as a wine resource for the FOH team
Complete other duties as assigned by management
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Previous sommelier, wine service, or comparable upscale dining experience preferred
Strong knowledge of wine, including producers, regions, varietals, winemaking styles, and food and wine pairing
Confident with proper table side wine service, including opening, presenting, and decanting still and sparkling wines
Strong hospitality and communication skills with an approachable, guest-focused style
Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and maintain awareness of the dining room during busy service
Comfortable providing direction and support to the FOH team in a respectful and professional way
Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team
Willingness to continue learning and participate in ongoing wine and beverage education
Valid food safety, RBS, anti-harassment, and other certifications required by applicable law
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly navigate stairs
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 40 pounds, including wine cases and supplies
Ability to bend, reach, stock, and safely handle wine, glassware, and service equipment
Ability to work safely in a busy, fast-paced restaurant environment
